IVF is a process in which mature eggs are retrieved from the female and fertilized with sperm in our embryology lab. In vitro fertilization (IVF) assisted reproductive technologies have been available in the United States since 1981.
Indications for IVF treatment include:
- abnormal sperm counts
- endometriosis
- failed conventional treatments (oral pills and/or injectable medications)
- unexplained infertility
- diminished ovarian reserve (poor egg quality)
- genetic disease(s) such as cystic fibrosis (when used with PGD)
Guidance about time sensitivity of IVF/ART Procedures
Assisted Reproductive Technologies and/or IVF procedures, such as egg retrieval and fresh or frozen embryo transfers, are time sensitive. Delay of one day, or even one or several hours, is not always possible and may result in detrimental impact to your cycle, or lead to cycle cancellation. Since most treatment cycles involve pretreatment with many weeks of costly medications, RRC’s guidance is for all patients with concerns about potential travel delays for any reason, (weather related or otherwise) to make plans to arrive and stay near our office the evening before important procedures. There are multiple lodging choices within a mile of our office.
